The observatory focuses on working with children and young people. Tailor-made offers for school classes and specially developed teaching materials are designed to encourage students to deal with astronomical topics in class. The Astronomy Working Group also supervises the "Albedo" youth group, which meets at the observatory every last Thursday of the month for the "Youth Astro Evening" (exception: There are no Youth Astro Evenings in July and August).

The observatory also offers teacher training in cooperation with universities of education. Further examples: An internship for students in cooperation with the University of Salzburg is to become an integral part of the physics course. Students of the HTL Salzburg have developed and built a spectroscope for the observatory, for which they were awarded the German Spectroscopy Prize. With all these activities, the observatory promotes young people's interest in technology and natural sciences.
